Graphical database management tool designed to work with Oracle

They are a code improvement component called CodeXpert, SQL tuning, a SQL execution engine, and an improved interface, said Bryan Huddleston, product marketing manager for database development solutions.

The new version is available in three editions: Toad for Oracle, Toad for Oracle Professional and Toad for Oracle Xpert.

“CodeXpert advises you on how to write code better,” Huddleston said. “It says, this is a problem and here’s what you can do to correct it.”

It analyzes stored procedures against a set of rules and then offers corrective recommendations.

The enhanced SQL tuning now includes an Oracle Script Debugger, Huddleston said.

Toad began its life in 1997 as a freeware graphical tool for administering Oracle databases, Huddleston said. When the product began, it solved the problem of entering SQL statements when it was not possible to backspace with Oracle’s tools, he claimed.

Now, with the expanded features, Quest charges a minimum of US$870 per seat for the product.

Toad’s main purposes are to enter SQL statements, to manage object databases, and to deal with database-specific stored procedural languages, he said.
