What Is The Difference Between Link Crawling And Link Indexing?

Link crawling or link spidering is a term used when Google or another search engine, sends its bot to a web page or web post and reads the page.

It is the first part of having a search engine to recognize the page and show it in search results. On the other hand, link indexing is including the page in the public index and is the next step after crawling.

Crawling means that Googlebot looks at all the content/code on the page and analyzes it.

Indexing means that the page is eligible to show up in Google's search results. They aren't mutually inclusive.

Crawling is a process which is done by search engine bots to discover publicly available web pages. Indexing means when search engine bots crawl the web pages and saves a copy of all information on index servers and search engines show the relevant results on search engine when a user performs a search query.

Link crawling and link indexing are two distinct processes involved in search engine optimization (SEO) and web indexing. Here's the difference between them:
      1. Link Crawling:
        • Definition: Link crawling refers to the process by which search engine bots, also known as crawlers or spiders, systematically browse the web by following links from one webpage to another.
        • Function: Crawling enables search engines to discover new web pages and content on the internet. When a crawler encounters a link on a webpage, it follows that link to visit the linked page and continues this process recursively across the web.
        • Purpose: The primary purpose of crawling is to gather information about web pages, including their content, structure, and any additional links they contain. This information is then used by search engines to index and rank web pages in search results.
      2. Link Indexing:
        • Definition: Link indexing involves the process of storing and organizing information gathered from crawled web pages into a searchable index or database.
        • Function: Indexing involves analyzing the content and metadata of web pages, extracting relevant keywords and phrases, and ***ociating them with specific URLs. This allows search engines to quickly retrieve relevant web pages in response to user queries.
        • Purpose: The main purpose of indexing is to facilitate efficient and accurate search results. By indexing web pages, search engines can quickly retrieve and display relevant content to users based on their search queries.
