    My IP Address

Your Internet Service Provider ***igns an active IP address to you once you're online; you don't have to sign up for one (ISP). To use the internet, you will need an active IP address.

An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is a unique string of numbers ***igned to each device connected to a network, like the internet. It serves two main purposes: identifying the host or network interface and providing the location of the device in the network. Think of it as a digital address that allows computers, websites, and devices to communicate with each other.

There are two main types of IP addresses:
    1. IPv4 (Internet Protocol version 4):
      • Format: four sets of numbers separated by periods.
      • It is the most commonly used version but limited to around 4.3 billion unique addresses.
    2. IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6):
      • Format: eight groups of four hexadecimal digits separated by colons.
      • Created to solve the shortage of IPv4 addresses, it offers a much larger address pool.

There are two types of IP addresses when considering public and private networks:
    • Public IP address: Used to identify a device on the broader internet. This is the address visible to the outside world when you visit websites or communicate with external servers.
    • Private IP address: Used within a private network (like your home Wi-Fi network) to identify devices locally. Routers ***ign these addresses.

Additionally, an IP address can be:
    • Static: Manually ***igned and doesn’t change unless modified.
    • Dynamic: Automatically ***igned by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and may change periodically.
