I have a question!

What exactly is XHTML. how much different from HTML is it? and, do I have to re-learn a whole bunch of stuff to write valid code with it?

XHTML stands for Extensible HyperText MarkUp Language. It is very much similar to HTML. Basically it's a better version of HTML.

But when XML was introduced, a two-day workshop was organised to discuss whether a new version of HTML in XML was needed. The opinion at the workshop was a clear 'Yes': with an XML-based HTML other XML languages could include bits of XHTML, and XHTML documents could include bits of other markup languages. 1. If you confuse b/w what you want to learn(html or xhtml), then you can go for XHTML.
2. If you know the HTML then you don't need to learn XHTML.

I think XHTML very strict about there tags but in html so many tags are optional. So we can say that XHTML is the update version of the HTML.

Basically, XHTML is HTML (all the html tags are found in XHTML) that follows the rules of XML (because it is a family of XML).
